Do I need a softener?
How do you know if your water is hard enough to warrant a water softener? First, let’s consider a few questions to help you determine if you might have hard water or not:
Do you have Iron Stains? Odors? Or foul tasting water? You could have iron, tannins, sulfates, but we can only know what is in your water by testing your water.
Can you create a soapy lather? If you feel you are using too much soap for too little results you might have a hard water problem.
Do your dishes and glasses come out of the wash with water spots? If you find yourself struggling with terrible water spots all over your clean dishes you may have problems with hard water.
Does your shower seem to be constantly overrun by soap scum and other unpleasant deposits? The same minerals that cause your soap not to lather also cause it to linger in your tub. And just like your dishes, your tub is a great place or hard water to leave its deposits. If your shower seems to be overrun by white (and we’re not talking a good clean white) than you might have a hard water problem.
If you said YES to these questions, give us a call. We will provide you a FREE Basic Water Test to determine what's in your water. Just because you have "City Water" doesn't mean it is SOFT Water! See the map below and you can see our entire area has very hard water.
Do "Salt Free Systems" Work?
Salt-free systems are not true water softeners. These systems are often called “water conditioners” or “descalers”. Salt-free systems can help reduce the buildup of limescale, the chalky substance you see in dried hard water spots, as well as other chemicals. The systems work by altering the chemical structure of water minerals through the descaling process, which prevents solids from depositing in pipes and water-using fixtures. I've called on many disappointed home owners who thought this system would soften their water!
A Water Softener salt removes minerals, like calcium and magnesium – which cause hard water – through a process called ionic exchange and replaces them with soft minerals potassium and sodium.
The advantage of water softeners is they can extend the life of your water-using appliances, your plumbing and even your clothes. One study showed that water heaters using hard water lost half their efficiency over a 15-year lifetime, whereas those using softened water retained their original efficiency rating.
The Water Lover's line of Water Softeners we offer give you low maintenance, low salt consumption, low electric usage, and best of all, GREAT WATER!
